Madrid continues to dance, beats Atletico to remain perfect

Madrid (AFP) – Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior did not hesitate after Real Madrid opened the scoring at the Metropolitano Stadium.

The Brazilian duo went towards one of the corner flags and began doing samba-like dance moves near the Atlético Madrid fans.

With the young Brazilians not holding back from their dance, Real Madrid beat rivals Atletico Madrid 2-1 in La Liga to continue their perfect start to the season on Sunday.

Rodrygo and Federico Valverde scored two goals in the first half as the defending champions secured their ninth consecutive win in all competitions.

The result returned Real Madrid to the top of the league after Barcelona overcame it on Saturday, after its Catalan team defeated Elche 3-0 to achieve its fifth victory in a row. Madrid leads Barcelona by two points.

Atletico’s loss in the league came for the second time despite using Antoine Griezmann from the start for the first time this season. Coach Diego Simeone only added the France striker after the 60-minute mark amid a contract dispute that is said Atletico will have to pay Barcelona extra if Griezmann plays a certain number of minutes per season.

Preparations for the first Madrid derby of the season have been surrounded by controversy over Vinicius dancing during his goal celebrations. Vinicius, who is black, criticized the racist language used by a guest on a sports talk show about his dances. The 22-year-old striker said his actions are being criminalized but insisted he would not stop showing his happiness on the field.

Atletico midfielder Koke Resurrección predicted there could be a problem if Vinicius dances again in the Metropolitano, but there was little reaction from Atletico players after the Brazilians danced after Real Madrid’s first goal.
