The 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Gala was supposed to be a celebratory event, but it got off to a sweet and bitter start on Saturday, when Duran Duran — who had been ignored by the Hall for 17 years — finally joined this year in their nomination. The first – they announced that the original guitarist, Andy Taylor, was unable to join them on stage due to stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. Taylor has kept his illness a secret since he was diagnosed four years ago.

When the 2022 recruit was announced last May, Andy — who played on Duran from 1980 to 1985 and 2001 to 2006, as well as at the Super Power Plant with Duran bassist John Taylor — excitedly told the press that he He intends to reunite with his former bandmates In the thirty-seventh annual ceremony of the hall. Tragically, his health has since taken a turn for the worse.

After Robert Downey Jr. introduced Legends of the New Wave, they opened the hall party, with current guitarist Dom Brown, with “Girls on Film”, “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Ordinary World” in particular. John Taylor, drummer Simon Le Bon, drummer Roger Taylor, and keyboardist Nick Rhodes approached next, and Le Bon thanked guitarist Warren Kokorolo, who played with the group from 1986 to 2001, and “Ordinary World” drummer, for his film “The massive ‘contribute to turnover turnover’.”

Then Le Bon officially grew up. “Then there’s Andy Taylor, our original guitarist. Andy wrote us an open letter. I’m going to read some of it now,” said the singer. Andy’s heartbreaking message was Published in full on duranduran.com, which crashed shortly after the shocking news was announced; In the excerpt Le Bon read at the concert, the 61-year-old guitarist expressed his disappointment at missing the concert, emphasizing, “No doubt I was so excited about the whole thing, I even bought a new guitar with the base hit!”

Backstage in the press room after Duran Duran’s performance and speech, Le Bon spoke on behalf of the band, saying: Colleague, That’s it. a Companiona Friendone of the family – It won’t be around for long. It is very destructive. We love Andy so much I wouldn’t stand here and cry – I think that would be inappropriate – but that’s how I feel. So, now we have it [question] Far away, can’t we go back to that? “

Andy Taylor released a new single, “”The man is a wolf to a manJust last week. His full open letter explaining his absence from the Hall of Fame party and details of his grim prognosis are below:

Dear Simon, John, Roger, Nick, fellow enlisted men and fellow citizens

I wanted to send a personal note to show all of you my sincerest respect for what a wonderful profession it has been, and also to share what happened to me.

First, may I say what an absolute honor it would be to be nominated, let alone be inducted into the RRHOF. Nothing comes close to this recognition. I’m proud of everything we achieved together and the way you carried on. As a guitarist in a progressive band from the Synth days of the early ’80s, since the day I met Nick, John, Simon, and Roger, they have truly appreciated the contribution of a boisterous and versatile northern brat. We’ve all grown up on the same vinyl records and live gigs, from David Bowie to Roxy Music, The Sex Pistols, and of course, CHIC. I can go to all those places as a player and develop a hybrid guitar style that fits this amazing concept of A BAND…

I loved going to the studio and recording our material. Nobody is like us. We were ready to take in what the art of analog recording was, but with a few different tools Nick’s savvy obsession with synthesis technology was something I had never seen before and was introduced to the layers. Because we were instinctively fit, we developed very quickly, writing RIO as our second album with confidence in our very early success with “Girls On Film” and “Planet Earth”.

You can dream about what happened to us but experiencing it, on one’s own terms, as colleagues, was incredible.

I would like to thank all my brothers in this wonderful band.

My family: my sane 40 year old wife – Tracy – my adorable kids, Andy, Georgie, Bethy and Izzy, not to mention my grandson Albee, who probably listens online or on Fortnite!!!

Original Believers: Paul and Michael Perrault, Dave Ambrose, Terry Slater, Rob Hallett.

Producers: Colin Thurston, Alex Sadkin, Bernard Edwards, Neil Rodgers – I’ve really looked into working with Mark Ronson – I’m particularly impressed with All You Need Now, it’s a DD tune if you’ve ever heard it.

Thanks also to Merck, Andrew and Wendy.

Now for the bad blood, well the good news is that there is nothing, just pure love and respect for all that we have written, recorded and achieved together. what is the point? There’s nothing stopping this 44-year-old thing called ‘turnover’.

Now for the reason I’m not here:

A little over 4 years ago, I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. Many families have experienced slow this disease and of course we are no different; So speaking from the perspective of a family man but with deep humility for a band, the greatest fan a band can have and this extraordinary honor.

I have Doctors Rodgers and Edwards and medical treatment that until very recently allowed me to get through it. Although my current condition is not immediately life threatening, there is no cure. Recently, I have been fine after some very advanced life-prolonging therapy, and it was until a week or so when I had a relapse, and despite the extraordinary efforts of my team, I had to be honest about it both physically and mentally, I was I’ll do it. push my limits.

However, none of this needs or should detract from what this band (with or without me) has achieved and sustained for 44 years. We’ve had a special life, we’ve been a little naughty but really cute, a little sloppy but very well dressed, and a little full of ourselves, because we had so much to offer, but as I’ve said so many times, when you feel the collective, innate, family creative spirit mixed with ambition, Armed with an impressive lineup of fans, well, what could possibly go wrong?

I’m really sorry and very disappointed that I couldn’t do that. There should be no doubt that I was so amazed by the whole thing that I even bought a new guitar with the base hit!

I am very proud of these four brothers; I am amazed at its durability, and I am very happy to accept this award. I often doubt that the day will come. I’m pretty sure hell glad I’m here to see you today.

All my Love
