Is Daniel Hemrick looking forward to returning to the Cup?

While Daniel Hemrick has enjoyed his time in the NASCAR Cup Series this year, he’s not necessarily looking to return to competing full time.

Hemric has experience as a full-time Cup Series driver, having driven Richard Childress Racing in 2019 before being replaced by Tyler Reddick. Ironically, Riddick is the only driver in the history of the Xfinity Series to win the title in consecutive seasons for two different teams, Which is what Heimrick is trying to do.

But while he would like to return to competing in the NASCAR Cup Series full time, Daniel Heimrick is content with wherever Kaulig Racing wants it to be.

“For me, I’m always just one person to be competitive, no matter what level I’m at, whether it’s go-karts, wheelbarrows or whatever,” said Heimrick. beyond science. “You just want to be competitive and have a chance to win and run as high as you can. Obviously my switch was to Kaulig Racing not only with the opinions we currently share today, but also with what we’ve seen in the long run.

“Knowing some insight about where Kaulig Racing wanted to be as a Cup organization and as a racing team as a whole, for so many years down the road, was something I definitely wanted to be a part of. It was around the time of my Xfinity deal when I found out who [team owner] Matt College and [team president] Chris Rice that they wanted me to jump in the trophy car and run number 16 on an event all season.

“I was so grateful to have this opportunity and certainly would like to be at the level of the Cup one day, when the time is right, whether it is for myself or Kaulig Racing, or when that opportunity arises.

“But until then, I will do what College Racing asks of me. I am enjoying this ride and I enjoy driving for an owner who loves to compete and do it at a high level no matter what he does. I am grateful for that, grateful for this opportunity.”

Kaulig Racing is set to make an official announcement for the drivers of the Cup Series this weekThe Allmendinger is expected to be named full-time driver of the #16 Chevrolet for next year. Justin Haley currently drives the team’s 31st full-time Chevrolet.

Daniel Hemrick believes adding several NASCAR Cup Series to his 2022 schedule has benefited him on the Xfinity Series side.

“Without a doubt, especially when you have a good performance,” he said. “I think back to the beginning of the season when this Nex Gen was so brand new, modern to everyone, all the teams were probably on the most equal playing field the sport has seen in 50 years.

“For us to leave Daytona with a top 15 and then go to Fontana, where everyone as a driver is talking about how it’s a racetrack for drivers, that the tires are falling out and this car was brand new and nobody knew how to get it to drive great – and we go there, we broke the transmission On a pit road after qualifying inside the top five for the cup event; that’s no small feat from a racing perspective.”

After finishing 12th in the season-opening Daytona 500, he finished ninth at Auto Club Speedway, despite dropping six laps off the first lap early.

“We broke the transmission on a pit road in the first leg and were able to fight back — we got back six laps — and we’re back in the top 10,” he continued. “I remember coming out of that event thinking, ‘I can do this, I can do this at this level,’ and I think that puts me in a different level of confidence that I was able to take in. It’s clear that confidence has waned at times this year with this The kind of coarse correction we had on the Xfinity side.

“But being able to prove to yourself that you can do it at this level and keep doing it, it never hurts your confidence. I’m looking forward to getting more on the road at some point, but for now, I’m enjoying the journey and the opportunity that I’ve had. Through Kaulig Racing, I am definitely grateful for this ride.”

Sharing the #16 Chevrolet car with other drivers has proven beneficial to Daniel Hemrick and the College Racing team as a whole so far.

“We’ve all certainly competed in different styles of racetracks, but I feel like me and AJ, and then even the races Noah ran, I think having three different drivers in these cars – I was able to run a mile – and – a half, I think the only thing What I haven’t run is a track on the road and a short track in that car this year – but I think from a team point of view, having the three of us in that car was an opportunity to build different data points and more, not just for the different drivers but for the car itself.”

“That’s what #16 was all about. How can we speed up the process of changes and what it does within the race team, inside that new car, how that can help our car and our full-time driver at Justin Haley and this team #31 and [crew chief] Trent Owens leading that group?

“Anything we can do inside the split car to help them is a wonderful thing. It was all about getting the data and trying to learn. If we were doing it with one car, there would be no way to gain the knowledge and what we have by doing it with two cars. Being a part of that process and being dependent on each other while we do it.”
