It’s a testament to Garmin’s efforts over the decades that Apple finally launched Apple Watch UltraDesigned for competition and the needs of endurance athletes. I’ve reviewed and tested watches from the two companies before and it’s certainly interesting to see the two transition into each other’s expertise, as Apple offers more advanced sports tracking while Garmin provides advances in smartphone-connected experiences.

While this article showcases the latest Apple Watch with Garmin’s best sports watch, the Enduro 2, I’ve reviewed enough of the less expensive but very capable Garmin watches for your consideration as well. For now, from specs and features alone, here are the obvious and distinct reasons to buy one wearable over another.

1. Extremely long battery life is vital

The Garmin Enduro 2 has the longest battery life of any Garmin watch, with extended battery life delivered through the Power Sapphire glass display that converts solar energy into a battery charge. The Enduro 2 can last up to 34 days in smartwatch mode, up to 110 hours with GPS, up to 78 hours with all satellite systems, and up to 20 hours in GPS mode with music playing with the Enduro 2. This The numbers exclude the added hours and days the battery pack will recover from passive solar charging.

Although the Apple Watch Ultra has significantly increased battery life compared to current Watch models, 36 Hours is still pretty low compared to the Enduro 2. We’ll have to figure out the battery life in various practical scenarios to better understand Apple’s claims.

2. Extensive customizable data fields are needed

Apple’s latest version of WatchOS It includes many new options for data fields, including boot power, but Garmin is known for its extensive support for customizable data fields in All of sports included. There are even third-party data fields in the Garmin Connect Store to expand the options for athletes even further beyond the sports and modes offered by the company.

If you have specific fitness areas that you’re working on improving, you can include these metrics in your Garmin watch. Moreover, multiple fields can appear for users on the main watch face so that the workout experience is customized to your needs.

3. Mapping is required on the watch

One of the most compelling features of the Garmin Enduro 2 is the extensive topographic map support that includes the new NextFork feature. Help guide you on the right path during your outdoor adventures. The touch screen and buttons make mapping easy, while the large Enduro 2 display makes navigation directly on the watch practical.

1. Communication and safety are your priorities

First of all, the Apple Watch Ultra only connects to the iPhone, so Android phone users should look elsewhere. However, if you are an iPhone user, Apple has taken connectivity to the next level with the cellular support offered by default. This connectivity supports new features for fault and fall detection and emergency distress. You can call, text, stream music, get directions, and collect information with Siri.

For awareness, the Apple Watch Ultra offers an 86 decibel siren designed to grab attention if you find yourself in trouble on the road.

2. Vital Smartwatch functions

The Apple Watch Ultra is at its core an Apple Watch, so all the smartwatch functions that make the Apple Watch the best smartwatch available are on the Ultra. Support for third-party apps, seamless connection to your Apple iPhone, and more are provided.

All the health and wellness features that are part of the Apple Health ecosystem are on the Ultra, so the watch offers everything you love about your Apple Watch in a larger package.

3. You can dive

Garmin offers only a few watches that focus on diving experiences, so it was interesting to see how far Apple has gone to support the Apple Watch Ultra in this niche market. The Ultra acts as a full-featured diving computer in combination with the Oceanic Plus app. Air condition, ascent/descent tracking and more are provided in a simple and easy to understand format. It helps that the new Apple Watch Ultra features a rugged design with tactile buttons and New Ocean Band for aquatic environments.
